In July we received the fantastic news that our bid to The National Lottery Heritage Fund was successful!

Mike O’Meara, Chairman of the Historical Diving Society, says, “We are extremely grateful to the Heritage Fund. It is a positive endorsement of our plans for new displays and activities that allow the Museum to take its place as the UK’s leading museum exploring the history of diving.”

It’s been an amazing roller-coaster ride to get this far, and the conserved, and dry, building shell is a testament to volunteer determination and significant funder support by organisations including Historic England and Arts Council England.

It means we are about to put the difficulties of our damp Grade II* listed building behind us as the extensive repair works draw to a close this summer and progress with the exciting plans for a new Museum at No. 2 Battery.

Kevin Casey, our Museum Director says, “We have great plans for displays and activities that will bring the history, development and contemporary story of Diving alive – and will be aimed at all types of visitors, from the diving specialist to local families looking for fun.”

… as you can see from the drawings from our interpretation plan showing some of our galleries – the military, communications and sport galleries.

We are keen to move forward, however, we still need to raise the last of the match funding.
